Movie Stars & Media Moguls

The alluring lives of the rich and famous!

Movie Preview: Spring Breakers

One of the most talked about movies of the spring is Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers.” Korine is one of the most controversial independent directors in the business, and is known for movies like 1995’s “Kids,” and 2007’s “Mister Lonely.” Movie reviewers have already said how controversial “Spring Breakers” is because of the violence, nudity, and harsh language. Another reason why the movie is so controversial is because it stars a couple of former Disney Channel darlings, and a “Pretty Little Liar.”

Former Disney stars, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens star alongside “Pretty Little Liars” star Ashley Benson in the film. The casting choices are very odd because people wouldn’t think those girls would want to be involved with such a controversial director and a violent film.. The film is about 4 girls who rob a restaurant to go on spring break, who then get arrested and bailed out of jail by a drug dealer who wants them to work for him. The drug dealer is played by none other than James Franco.

Besides the weird casting choices, the film has received pretty positive reviews at the various film festivals it has been screened at. Reviewers also praise the young women for acting out of their comfort zone, and giving stellar performances in their “bad girl” roles, because they are mostly known as “good girls.” The stars of the film and movie reviewers have cautioned young viewers to not see this movie because of how violent it is, and because of the very controversial situations the girls get themselves into. One this is for sure, the film will be pretty successful because everyone wants to see the good girls go bad. I know I am excited to see how the movie turns out, and can’t wait for it to be released on March 22, 2013!
